Commercial rooftop solar is fitted using mounting systems matched to the roof construction — standing seam and trapezoidal steel sheet roofs typically use clamp-fixed rail systems that avoid unnecessary roof penetrations, while flat felt or single-ply membrane roofs generally use ballasted or lightly mechanically fixed frames set at a shallow tilt angle to balance yield against wind loading and weight on the structure. Fibre cement and older asbestos-cement roofs need particular care around fixing points and access. In every case, a structural assessment confirms the roof and supporting steelwork can take the additional dead load, snow load and wind load of the array before design work proceeds.

Unlike a domestic property, commercial sites often have half-hourly metering data available, which lets us size a system against actual measured demand rather than an estimate. Matching array size to genuine daytime consumption avoids over-investing in export capacity that delivers less value than energy used on site.
Funding structures explained
Commercial finance spreads the capital cost over an agreed term while the business owns the system outright. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) allows a third party to fund and own the system, with the business paying for the electricity generated at an agreed rate and no upfront capital outlay. A straight CAPEX purchase suits businesses that prefer to own the asset from day one and maximise long-term value. We do not currently offer domestic finance, but all three commercial routes are available and can be discussed during the free survey.
Grid connection and export considerations
Larger commercial arrays may require a formal application to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) before installation, particularly where export capacity is significant or where the site's existing supply capacity is limited. We handle this process as part of the design and installation programme, so grid approval timelines are factored into the overall project schedule rather than causing delays later.
Integration with EV charging and battery storage
Many commercial sites combine rooftop solar with EV fleet charging and battery storage, using generated electricity to charge vehicles during the day and store surplus for use outside daylight hours.
