A charge point that is out of service is a fleet or a workforce that cannot charge. Our in-house team services and repairs home and workplace charge points, including units we did not originally install.
What EV charger servicing and repair involves
An EV charge point is an electrical appliance that carries a sustained, heavy load every time it is used, and like any electrical equipment it needs periodic checking to keep working safely and reliably. Servicing covers a visual and electrical inspection of the unit, its supply cable, protective devices and earthing arrangement, along with checks on charging speed and fault logs. Repair and fault finding covers the diagnosis and correction of a charge point that has stopped working, trips a circuit, charges intermittently, displays an error, or simply will not start a session.
Who needs it
Homeowners with a charge point that has developed a fault, stopped communicating, or simply hasn't been checked since installation benefit from a service visit. Landlords and housing providers with charge points across a portfolio need a reliable point of contact to keep units working for tenants. Employers, retailers, fleet operators and public sector sites with multiple charge points on site need a servicing arrangement that keeps bays available rather than out of use. We service and repair charge points for all of these across Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, covering Preston, Ormskirk, Southport, Liverpool, Warrington, Chester, Wigan and Bolton.
When it is needed
A charge point should be checked if it develops a fault, trips a circuit, shows an error code, charges more slowly than expected, or hasn't been inspected since installation. Workplace and fleet sites with charge points running daily benefit from periodic servicing to catch a developing fault before it takes a bay out of use. Surveys and written quotes for servicing or repair work are typically turned around in 1–2 working days, so a fault can usually be assessed and scheduled quickly.
Why professional servicing matters
Charge points draw a high current for long periods, so a developing fault in the cable, connector, protective devices or earthing arrangement is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience. Diagnosing the cause correctly, rather than simply resetting a unit and hoping the fault doesn't return, needs an electrician who understands both the electrical supply side and the charge point itself. As a NAPIT registered team working to Part P standards, we assess the whole installation, not just the charging unit, before carrying out any repair.

What it costs to wait
What happens when this is left alone
Ignoring an intermittent fault
A charge point that trips occasionally, charges slowly, or shows an error that clears itself is often treated as a minor annoyance rather than investigated. Left unaddressed, an intermittent electrical fault can develop into a more serious problem, including nuisance tripping that affects other circuits or, in a worst case, an unsafe connection or overheating fault.
A charge point out of use on a commercial site
For a workplace, retail or fleet site, a faulty charge point is a bay that staff, customers or vehicles can't use. Without a servicing arrangement in place, a fault can sit unresolved for longer than necessary, reducing available charging capacity at exactly the times it's needed most.
Assuming only the original installer can help
Some owners assume a charge point can only be serviced or repaired by the company that installed it. This isn't the case, and waiting for the original installer, particularly if they are no longer trading or based further afield, can leave a fault unresolved for far longer than necessary.
Our process
How we deliver the work
- 01
Free survey or fault report
We assess the charge point, its supply and any reported fault, whether that's a single domestic unit or several bays across a commercial site.
- 02
Diagnosis and written quote
We identify the cause of any fault and provide a written quote for the servicing or repair work required, typically within 1–2 working days of survey.
- 03
Scheduling
We agree a visit that works around your household routine or your site's operating hours, minimising disruption to charging availability.
- 04
Servicing, fault finding and repair
Our in-house electrical team carries out the inspection, diagnosis and repair, working to Part P and NAPIT standards throughout.
- 05
Testing and handover
The charge point is tested and confirmed working before we leave, with any findings explained to you or your team in plain terms.

In detail
EV Charger Servicing & Maintenance explained properly
Domestic charge point servicing
For homes, servicing covers a visual and electrical check of the wall-mounted unit, its supply cable and connections back to the consumer unit, along with a check of the protective devices and earthing arrangement. Where a fault is reported, we diagnose whether it lies in the charge point itself or in the supply feeding it before carrying out any repair.
Workplace and multi-bay fault finding
For sites with several charge points sharing a supply and load management arrangement, a fault on one bay can sometimes point to an issue with the shared system rather than the individual unit. We assess the whole installation across a site, not just the bay reporting the fault, to make sure the underlying cause is properly resolved.
Common faults we diagnose and repair
This includes charge points that fail to start a session, trip a circuit repeatedly, charge more slowly than expected, display persistent error codes, or have stopped communicating with a vehicle. Faults can originate in the unit's internal components, the cable and connector, the electrical supply, or the earthing arrangement, and correct diagnosis depends on assessing all of these.
Servicing charge points installed by others
Our in-house servicing department maintains and repairs charge points regardless of the original installer, in the same way our solar PV servicing department works on systems we didn't originally fit. This is useful where an original installer is no longer trading, is based outside the area, or simply isn't available quickly enough.
Periodic servicing for commercial sites
For employers, retailers and fleet operators running charge points daily, a periodic service visit checks the unit and supply before a fault develops into unplanned downtime. This is particularly relevant for sites with several bays, where keeping charging capacity available matters to staff, customers or fleet scheduling.
Common questions
Questions about ev charger servicing & maintenance
Can you service a charge point that another company installed?
Yes. Our in-house servicing department works on existing charge points regardless of who originally installed them, in the same way we service solar PV and battery systems installed by others.
My charge point keeps tripping the circuit, what could be wrong?
Repeated tripping can point to a fault in the charge point itself, the supply cabling, the protective devices, or the earthing arrangement. We assess the whole installation to identify the actual cause rather than just resetting the unit.
How often should a charge point be serviced?
There's no fixed rule for every property, but a charge point that hasn't been checked since installation, or one used daily on a commercial site, benefits from periodic servicing to catch a developing fault early.
Do you service charge points for businesses with multiple bays, not just homes?
Yes. We service and repair single domestic charge points and multi-bay workplace, retail and fleet installations, including sites with shared load management across several bays.
What areas do you cover for servicing and repair?
We cover Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, including Preston, Ormskirk, Southport, Liverpool, Warrington, Chester, Wigan and Bolton.
How quickly can you assess a fault?
Surveys and written quotes for servicing or repair work are typically turned around in 1–2 working days, so a fault can usually be assessed and scheduled quickly.
What certification do you hold for electrical repair work?
We are NAPIT registered and work to Part P standards for electrical work, alongside our RECC and CHAS accreditations and MCS certification for solar and battery installations.
Is repair work covered by a guarantee?
Yes. Repair and remedial work we carry out is backed by our 2 year workmanship guarantee, insurance-backed via QANW.
